Skjermly on a Windows PC or mini PC

A small Windows PC behind the screen turns any display with HDMI into a digital sign. Windows has a built-in kiosk mode that signs in and opens Skjermly full screen after every restart.

Works on
PCs and mini PCs with Windows 10 or 11 Pro, Enterprise or Education. Windows Home has no kiosk mode; use the browser guide instead.
How it runs
Microsoft Edge in kiosk mode, no extra box
  1. 1

    Open kiosk setup

Go to Settings → Accounts → Other users. Under Set up a kiosk, select Get started.

  2. 2

    Create the kiosk account

Give the account a name, for example Skjermly, and select Next.

  3. 3

Choose Microsoft Edge as a digital sign

Choose Microsoft Edge as the app and choose to show the site full screen as a digital sign or interactive display. Enter https://skjermly.no/player as the address.

  4. 4

    Turn off sleep and restart

Set screen and sleep to Never under Settings → System → Power. Restart the PC. Windows now signs in the kiosk account and opens Skjermly full screen.

  5. 5

Connect the screen to your account

The screen now shows a six-character code and a QR code. Sign in to Skjermly, go to Screens → Connect screen and enter the code, or scan the QR code with your phone.

Good to know

  • Leave kiosk mode with Ctrl+Alt+Delete and sign in with your usual account.
  • In the BIOS you can make the PC start by itself when power returns. The setting is often called “Restore on AC power loss” or “Power on after power failure”.
  • Mounted in portrait? Rotate the picture under Settings → System → Display → Display orientation. Skjermly then sees the picture is already the right way up.
